We have started a small day center and short term shelter for the homeless and those in crisis. The local homeless shelter has only 17 beds and is always full. Many come to us for help who can't find temporary shelter, so we have developed a program to help with a short term housing fix and provide a place to come to during the day to work on resumes, recieve lunch, do job search and get general help in getting back on their feet.
The day center is held at our ministry and church facilities, and the short term shelter is provided through Prospector's RV Resort located 10 miles from town. Those in this program must have some income or have the ability to gain employment, such as transportation and demonstrated progress.
This is not a handout program, that enables people to stay stuck, but is a handup approach to jump start thier life, to help them learn to run on their own power again. Each person or the head of each family must meet our expectations to stay in this program and progress is reviewed every 15 days.
Some have no funds to start with, so our partner who owns the cabins works with us on lowering rent. We try to riase the funds to make up the diference until those staying can pay at least a portion of their rent.
Your donations for the short term shelter goes directly to the cabin owners, we do not take out for any administrative expenses. Some funds go to help with gas for job search and travel in applying for other resources. We also help with other transportation needs as well.
Curently, this is our main need in our recovery work. We asking you to financially help us maintain this short term shelter and day center program
